I have wanted a cockatiel for years and and finally the time was right. I went looking for one and came home with 4. I am very happy about it but upset that people don't do their homework before getting a pet and, as in this case, give them up after a few days!
The younger couple, the grey ones ( one year old), because they did not get along with the budgies!!!
The second pair spent the last 2 years in a basement and came up when a young girl wanted to try and get over her fear of birds. She worked at it for 3 months but then....

Wow, from zero to four in one big leap! I'm glad you rescued these birds, they should have a much better life with you.

I sure hope so!
I forgot to mention also have 12 Maltese and one small Standard Poodle!
The poodle is very interested in the new family members!

The cockatiels are handling the dogsbarking amazingly well!

We figure the first words coming out of the tiels to be "bark bark bark"! :bigsmile100:

That's great!! Do you know if your cockatiels are males or females? And have you named them yet?

Congrats on the new feather-babies. Props to you for rescuing! :D I hope they are adjusting well, but if you need any help with taming and such, this is the place to be!

It's going to be harder than having only one cockatiel, since they have each other already, and since they came in pairs, chances are they're already bonded. If you want to bond with your teils, you can try taking one in a different room away from their cage, so you can spend some one-on-one time.

Since it sounds like the pair from the basement haven't had much interaction with people, expect them to be a bit more of a challenge. I will tell you though, it will all be worth it. :) I once had a cockatiel adopted from a rescue, and he was absolutely terrified of people. After some time working with him, he became a total cuddle-bug!

He still had his quirks, as he only liked being pet while he was on my chest.

Since there's dogs, too, then it would be best to bring them to a room without the dogs, so it doesn't stress them out. Dogs, being natural predator animals, can be quite stressful to a cockatiel, which is a natural prey animal. After they feel comfortable enough with you, then you can try socializing them with the dogs. It is possible for them to get used to dogs, but it may take time.

With that said, welcome to the forum! :) I do hope you enjoy it here.

They came from 2 different places.
As I was leaving to go pick up 2 years old Ruby (Albino) and Max on Sept 1st I got an email from another person with whom I had been in contact with saying:"If you want them, pick up today!"
Fast chat with hubby and he said if I wanted to do it, to go ahead. But I did not decide until after I got Max and Ruby. They were desperate to get rid of the birds and I am a sucker!
So here came the second pair, this one only one year old. I am calling the boy Perry for "Pericles" as he is always talking. His partner is a really shy little girl and I do not have a name for her.
