G'day,

I live in Australia with my wonderful cockatiel. As my username says I am totally addicted to cockatiels. My cockatiel Howie really changed my life. He is definitely my best buddy and I love him to bits.
He's a 6-year old grey male with a very yellow crest (it was very yellow even when he was a baby before his first moult). As his mother is a WF, he also has some white on his head.

This is a photo of him a couple of years ago:

I am glad to be here!

Welcome to the group! Howie is gorgeous, but the yellow marks on the back of his head aren't because he's split to whiteface (although he is) - it's because he's also split to pied! A split is when a bird has one gene for a recessive mutation that requires two copies of the gene to actually show the coloring. It looks like he might be split to pearl too, the whitish marks on his wings are called ghost pearling.

Welcome. :) I hope you like it here

He's so pretty! :D That's one yellow crest. Your bird is definitely split pied, because of those markings on the back of his head. That might also explain why his crest is so yellow.

Hey, since you're from Australia, I'm curious. What kind of birds do you see in your specific area? I know there are a lot of cockatoos. I'm curious about which species you see. It must be really cool, seeing such lovely birds. :) Noisey too, possibly, considering how cockatoos love to make noise.

Howie and I would like to thank everyone for the welcome! :loveshower100:

I mainly see cockatoos, lorikeets and lovebirds here, but there are many more species. Some species never come down and stay away from people. Oh, and I hear kookaburras almost every morning.
Unfortunately I have never seen a cockatiel...

I bought this book on Australian parrots last month and it is really good if you want to know more about Australian parrots.

I would love to live in a quiet location surrounded by birds one day!

Thanks again!
