					| I was using a twist tie to secure the grate in Kermit’s carrier, and cutting the extra length off. Kermit was on the floor, and I didn’t realize there were pieces of twist tie next to me. I look up, and Kermit has one of the pieces in his mouth! I don’t know how long he was chewing on it before I saw him. I leaned up and he started flying in a panic, still with the twist tie in his beak. I managed to get him in his cage, and by that time he dropped it. I don’t know if he ingested any of it or not. I’m guessing the wire in the middle is toxic to birds, right? This happened a few minutes ago. Should I bring Kermit to the vet?

					| I’m really not sure if he broke the twist tie or exposed the wire. He probably could have. I wasn’t even able to locate it because he dropped it while in flight, so it could be anywhere in the room. He’s not showing any symptoms, and he appears fine.

					| I don’t think I would trust cheap metals from Walmart. They may be toxic to birds. I would prefer the plastic.

					| I did end up replacing the twist ties with zip ties. That way it would be safe if Kermit chewed on them.
