That is SUCH a relief! Keep an eye on him of course, and keep him indoors with you until he's strong and healthy again. But it looks like the worst is over now and he's on the mend. :fireworks: :blobg:

That moment was the best feeling ever! He ate the jalapeño millet. It's very small seeds. I hope he will gradually eat bigger and bigger seeds. He ate a lot. Tommy isn't going back outside until he is back to normal. That means no scabs, no half closed eye, and no pulled out feathers. I want him to look exactly like he was before this mess happened.

I don't know how long it will take but I expect that he'll go back to eating normally. The wound next to his beak probably makes it hard for him to open his beak, either because it's painful or because there's swelling there that makes it physically impossible to open it wide. He'll be able to use his beak better as this heals up.

Thanks. :)

How do I figure out how the injury happened? Do you think it's more likely a night fright, or an attack. I would rather it a night fright since I can solve it by putting in a night light.

Look for blood, flesh or feathers. If there is any trace around the cage or surrounding area, you can try to piece it together from there.

Maybe I'm thinking of someone else, but don't you have a double layer of wire on your aviary so predators can't reach the birds? If you do, predators could try to get the birds but they couldn't actually touch them.

Yes, I do have a double wired aviary. But remember, the wire is chicken wire. Wait one second! Tommy probably got his head stuck in the wire and couldn't get it out. That explains the cut on his neck, also the messed up feathers. Everything is clear now!

That's what I was suggesting. I remember I had to deal with a bird quite a while ago who got her head punctured from getting it pinched in a spring-close style door trying to get out.
