Baruch...that article was helpful. I'm not certain if I'm going to clip yet but it is good to know how. My vet is going to clip her wings when the splint comes off so she'll have time to heal fully.

Use version 1 not 2 as it can cause problems...
you vet will show you how to hold your bird and how much to clip off.
Good luck.

May I ask why the vet wants you to clip her? That won't save her from accidents so I am curious about the thinking behind it.
Like Jan says, don't have anything drastic done because if you do she will drop from the sky like a stone. Very dangerous. You just want to keep her flying low, I guess.
Still I can't understand why taking away that amazing gift that makes her life so happy and meaningful.

Taking a flying guess (lol), he might want to reduce the pressure on the wing joint for a while. If there's less wing surface there won't be as much air pressure on the wing when she flaps.

Ahhh that makes much sense! Thank you for explaining, I didn't think of that.
How is she?

Peach went for her second wrap change this morning. This being her 3rd appointment. When the Dr removed her splint wrap, there was some blood where it had been rubbing. So now she is on an antibiotic as well as the anti-inflammatory. She is healing very slowly. The vet said it would have healed faster if it was a fracture rather than a dislocation and tissue damage. If she doesn't heal then she will need a amputation of the tip of her wing finger. Almost as bad...she has lost trust in me and runs away from me when I need to take her out to put her in her travel cage. She hisses when I open her door. This has been awful for her. Very painful. She loves my husband and takes her medicine from him like a champ.
Please send her positive thoughts!

That's exactly correct Carolyn.

Oh no, I feel for both of you. It must be so hard. Cockatiels are very forgiving. I was trying to get Marshmallow to wear the harness and she absolutely hated me. I stopped training her and she became her sweet self again. Just offer millet and lots of cuddles and once she fully heals, you will have your Peach back. You mentioned that she likes head scratches. Maybe while she is on your hubby, you can slowly approach your finger to give a little rub, maybe even a tasty bite of millet. I have heard of many stories where people had to give their birds medication and their birds hated the owners but once the bird healed, they were friendly again. You and Peach are both in my thoughts. (I love the name Peach)

Would it be possible for your husband to put her in the travel cage? She might accept it better from him, and it would give her less to hold against you.

He is not home when she goes or returns. But I think she thinks of him as her only friend right now and I wouldn't dare take that away from her.
