Two days ago Peach was out of her cage with me in my office. It is her safe place....I thought. I left the room for about 2 minutes and when I came back in she was on the floor. No sign of any accident but she couldn't fly and her left wing was out of alignment. I watched her for a while after checking her over and finding no blood or sign of anything broken. She soon had her wing aback in place and I thought 48 hours in her cage might do it. When I took her out she still couldn't fly. Today we went to her vet and after an ex-ray, we found she has a dis-located "wrist" on her left wing. She is home now in a small "hospital" cage (cat carrier) until she goes back on Friday A.M.. Her wing is splinted and all wrapped up. She had to have her joint put back in place and she was amazingly brave. She'll need to have her wings clipped when the bandage comes off and the vet wants me to think about keeping them clipped. :( She's on an antibiotic and is now a $362 girl! Well...she's worth it...no groceries this month!

Poor Peach! I hope she's feeling better now.

You did the right thing taking her to the vet. Wing problems are often nothing more than a feather that's out of alignment and causing discomfort, and it's fine to just observe for a while. But if the problem doesn't clear up quickly then it's likely to be something more serious and it needs to be checked out.

She seems to be doing ok in her little cage. Thanks for the idea for the cat carrier Carolyn. That came in handy. I think she feels safe in there.

I guess that's one good thing that came out of this. Once she's well again and ready for play time on the porch, you'll be able to transport her in it without a lot of drama.

Hope Peach is well soon.
Oh don't we have expensive little luxuries! LOL
I wont add up how much, my birds have cost over the years in Avian fee's. I'm sure I'd be very surprised.

Do any of you clip your birds wings? Is there a way to do it with 'tiels so they can glide down and not crash land???

Never never, just clip one wing its a danger to the birds...
Clip a little at a time... if the bird can still fly high take a little more off, both wings...
Ask a vet or someone who knows how to clip, to show you... once you've done it a couple of times its easy and doesn't hurt the bird.
You get a feel for how much to take off... start with just a little and see how it goes.
My tiels aren't clipped but my 3p'lets and budgie are... they glide and it keeps them safe..I take just enough off for them to fly low...

I hope Peach feels better.

I don't usually clip my birds wings. I clipped Georgie's because he was hormonal and acting all crazy with the other birds. I'll will try to find an illustration to show you how you can clip your birds wings. Clipping doesn't hurt the bird unless you cut too deep and make the bird bleed, but if you follow the instructions, you won't have any problems.
