Oh God, will he be okay? I was giving the budgies their breakfast and I didn't even see Jaid behind me and I stepped back on him! I didn't step fully back, but I put enough weight to make him scream. He seems pretty peeved at me, will he forgive me?

I'm sorry. Is he acting okay? Cockatiels are very forgiving. I don't think he will hate you because of that.

Yes, he is acting okay now. I gave him some millet and he asked for a kiss a few hours later. I think he will be alright, but it's scary how fast something can happen like that.

Do you know whether you got his body at all or just stepped on his tail? He seems to be OK in any case so disaster didn't strike this time. This is an ongoing hazard with birds, and I've had some near misses including one earlier this year where I stepped on Squeebis's tail and he dropped all his tailfeathers. There's no way to completely eliminate the risk and all we can to is try to be vigilant, but sometimes they sneak up on us when we're not expecting it.

I got his body. I stepped more on his lower back, but it was like a half-step. I did not put full pressure on my foot, and I think that was incredibly lucky.

Well I'm glad he didn't get hurt. Accidents like this are so scary because they can happen to anybody.

That's exactly what happened to me and Keith a while ago! I am not sure whether I posted that particular misadventure but I feel for you because it's scary and you feel like a bird killer :(
In my case it was worse because I weigh probably 50lb more than you! I was steaming the floor, and one step behind me was Keith who has a knack for finding himself in the wrong place at the wrong time.
I took a step back and there he was
Thank god I didn't stomp on him completely, as soon as I felt softness I jumped forward, and he flew on one of the ropes, half shocked and half furious.
I was already thinking BRAIN INJURY - SPINE INJURY - I KILLED HIM!!! He seemed too calm for his standards so I brought him to the vet immediately and the vet said he was perfectly fine, probably just a bit shaken by the experience.

Since that day I only sweep/mop the floor before they get out of the cages.

Once Bubu was walking on the floor and Paul missed him with his heavy work boots by a millimetre. I have never seen Paul so white, :yikes: he was truly shocked.

Usually when I get up from a chair or the bed I count them first to be sure one isn't hiding somewhere; same thing before I sit.
Even with all these precautions the stomping is so worryingly easy :(

I am happy Jaid is ok, he has probably already forgot the accident and acting ok by now, loving mommy as ever :)

Well he bit mommy and crapped on her, but otherwise all is well. He's asked for lots of kisses and got a good couple heartwing sessions in. I even made them a new wicker ball toy and they destroyed it within 40 minutes. It was larger than both them standing on top of each other!
