I hope all went well for your little bird. What would we do without this community of bird lovers for support???

How is Trilly doing? I'm so glad that you took her to the vet, and I hope he'll be able to solve her problem.

I woke up at six 30pm and the surgery was already closed! So I didn't have the chance to talk to Dr Brian. Now I am waiting for them to open, at 8.30,and hopefully I will be able to talk with him. I am sure he'd have called me if there were complications so I am worried but not super super worried.
I will post update as soon as I have news.
Thank you all for the suggestions and good thoughts!!!

Good news! Trilly passed the egg yesterday in the evening and they told me that immediately she picked herself up chatting (knowing her,I know she was demanding to be let out of the cage).
I just came back home from picking her at the vet, frank started yelling even before we opened the house door.

Now I am in a dilemma. They abandoned the eggs when trilly started to be sick.this means they have been stone cold for about two days.I examined them and they look all a bit soft, I don't know if that depends from them being old, maybe. Two of them make a noise as if there is a tiny stone in them, the other three are clear. Plus I have the egg she laid yesterday which seems perfectly normal.

My first instinct was to pull out the nest and take away the eggs while she was at the vet, but what you guys think?
Should I put the nest back up with all six eggs hoping that she won't lay any more?
I am terrified that she's gonna get sick again, what would be the best way to stop her laying?

I even thought of moving her and frank in the living room, hoping that the new room would make them wary and take away any desire for nesting.

Just wanted to add that when I removed the nest frank didn't care at all, he was sitting miserably in a corner waiting for her love to show up again. So I don't think he has any more protective instinct towards the nest.

I'm glad Trillys passed the egg. Scared me a second. Let's hope Frank doesn't want to make babies once his lover is back. It's kinda disappointing that you didn't get the chicks you wanted but at least we know the big momma is doing fine. :)

Hopefully the stress of spending the night with the vet has put her out of breeding mode. My suggestion would be to NOT give them the nest or eggs, and hit them with hormone control techniques to try and put a damper on their breeding urge.

Soft eggs are a sign of calcium deficiency, so make sure she gets plenty of calcium and vitamin D. The vitamin D is the hard part, egg yolk is basically the only natural food that a bird would eat that has it. If this was my bird, I'd cautiously use a liquid calcium supplement made for birds. It's possible to overdose on it so don't exceed the instructions. There are several different brands but they all seem to have the same formula. This is the one I've got: http://www.morningbirdproducts.com/prod ... mplus.html

I didn't put the nest and eggs back, and they both don't seem to be even remotely in breeding mood.
They even refused to use the same cage and tried to evict jack and angelina from theirs...

They are in the dark from 8.30pm to about 10.30 or 11am. I leave a security light on because I am afraid of night frights... If one bird freaks out the others follow immediately!
Should I avoid the light? I can use one of those baby monitors so I can hear them if they freak out during the night.
