I saw his last breath, just as clear as I could see a puff of smoke... and I just lost it, how much I love this bird it's just unbearable, I can't think of letting him go. I am so sorry everytime I post something horrible happens, just bad news and calamities. I must have seriously pissed something or someone off, out there

Oh Barbara, you've done no such thing. This isn't your fault.

Thank you all for the kind words, I know that all of you have gone through the same pain, and the few who didn't can imagine and sympathise anyway.

Since Keith was a rescue, and still "property" of the charity I got him from, I was hoping to contact one of the directors and ask for a necropsy, for theirs and my peace of mind.
Unfortunately I couldn't contact anyone and today I put Keith to rest with a beautiful bush rose plant that will be feeding on him and remind me of his spirit every day :)
Funny enough, the variety is called "Remember Me", I have seen the flowers and they carry all the colours of a pinkish lutino like Keith was.

The bird room looks empty without that little scoundrel, he was bigger than life and I am worried for Rocky who is inconsolable right now. He sat next to him all the time I left the body with them to help them grasp the reality of what happened.

Bubu is also very sad, the only happy soul is Charlie Hamish, who is in love with Rocky and now doesn't get chased away... This is the only good thing. I was worried about him after he lost Burt Dougal a few weeks ago, because they had been mates for years and Charlie had started behaving erratically and lost a lot of weight.

Ok, thank you again my friends, I will post a remembrance photo in the subforum when I find the right one.

We'll never know what really happened, but it seems likely to me that it was related to the accident he had earlier. Maybe a blow to the head that caused slow bleeding into the brain which is basically a stroke. Or maybe some other kind of internal bleeding that ended up making a blood clot travel to a place where it blocked the normal blood flow. I don't know how treatable any of this is in birds but I'm guessing that there's little or nothing they could have done, even if you'd been able to rush him to a vet right away. In any case he had a wonderful life with you until this happened, and he ended his life peacefully being held by someone who loved him. That's about the best that any bird could hope for.

I am so sad to hear this, Barbara, so much is going on on your side...
Let him rest in peace and play with his fallen friends at the Rainbow bridge.
my condolences to you and all your birds. SO very hard...

Hi Cloudy, thank you for asking, life goes on even though this event has and still is difficult to accept.
The bird room is very quiet, no more floor walkers, no more mischief, no more trying to sneak out of the room. Keith was the driving force behind all that and the birds still haven't found a new stability and stuff to do... They mainly doze off next to me or each other.

Yesterday a little miracle happened. I said before that I bought a small rose bush for Keith's place of rest, and I even had it trimmed and tidied up by the people at the garden centre.
Well, two days ago this tiny rose started to grow and today it opened up!

This is how small the bush is

And still it produced the most perfect rose

Just the colour of his pretty cheeks :)
I feel like he's saying hello to us...
