My Kwanza died!! Today I found him on the ground, no wounds, ... He was only 2 years old...

But I got a replacement for him straight away since he was my last male zebra finch!!

Here's Leopold the III:

I took all of them out of the aviary. They're now in a seperate cage (indoors) and will be placed in a breeding cage as soon as I'm finisched with cleaning before winter.

That's too bad, I'm sorry that you lost him. Your new boy looks lovely.

I am sorry to hear that Kwanza died. Do you know what could cause it?

What do you do with all the babies?

I have no Idea what happened. But just in case the canaries kept him away from the food I placed all the zebra finches together in one cage. - I'll add Leopold III halfway november.

I have the food in two places away from eachother in the aviary.
Leftovers from both bowls go into a third place somewhere in between the other two dishes. (But I empty it first and that goes to my chickens)
So the food is never longer than 2 days in the aviary. And there is always left after 2 days, so it's not that I don't feed them enough.

I'm thinking about deviding up the food even more and put up a third bowl with fresh seeds...

If it wasn't related to food then it is possible he was sick. But the day before I found him dead he was very lively and hopped around on the floor beneath bowl number 1 (where seeds were spilled from the cockatiels looking for the good stuf).

About the chicks, I put them online as soon as they are weaned and ready to live a solitary life with pictures per bird, date of birth and ringnumber (which reminds me I need to order for next year). I sold all my hens that way an (appart from 2 I kept for myself) even the 2 and 3 year old mothers were sold online. The cocks didn't sell so well, 6 of them I sold in a birdshop after putting them on display in a bird exhibition where they got a lot of attention. Most of the buyers were looking for a couple though and not just a male.
