I cut Beaker's nails just now and hit a quick. It was going for a good few minutes and is still going now, but it slowed down a little. How long will a quick bleed for? I put flour on it twice.

The real answer is that it'll bleed until it clots. It might be helpful to pack some flour inside the nail and then pinch it shut for a while. The flour gives the clot something to adhere to, and pinching the nail will keep the flowing blood from pushing it out.

I find that it works best to have a container of flour you can stick their whole foot into when the quick is bleeding. For some reason that seems to pack it better than just putting it on by hand.

I actually did both. Once with my hand, and the second time with just dunking the foot. It stopped eventually, but it was persistent. I gave him some millet for being brave, but he pulled out the traumatic PTSD act for a while, so I let him be. He got his treat about a half hour later. :)

Yeah, I've definitely had a quick kind of oozing for an hour or so. It seems some birds clot better than others. Odette has a lot of trouble with bleeding. I wouldn't worry too much about it, though. It's good that it stopped.

try this, keep a film canister (I know old school) with 1 tablespoon of either cornstarch or white flour and 1 tablespoon of powdered cayenne. cap the canister and shake the 2 powders together until well mixed. you can use this one of 2 ways, the first is big pinch between your finger and thumb and pinch it on to the talon that is bleeding. then hold the pinch in place for several seconds. it will stop the bleeding. the other way is to make a paste of water and the powder to medium thick paste and use that on the ouchie.
WARNING: do not get this in to your eyes or use it anywhere your fid can get it in their eyes. it may cause nasty burning in your eyes or cause infection in your bird's eyes.

The cayenne would probably serve as an antiseptic, and it would help with clotting too. Any kind of powdered vegetable material will help with clotting - it's the cellulose in it that does the job. You don't really need an antiseptic with bleeding nails though, since the blood flow itself would wash out germs.
