Any advise would be very welcome.....
I have a problem with one of my p'lets.....
She is seeing an avian vet on meds....
Baytril and Itrafungol......
He thinks she has Aspergillosis......
She's been ill for around 2weeks.....
I'm doing all the usual things.... keeping her warm
Giving her a little honey in water a drop twice
A day.....
I'm at my wits end as I can
See her failing in front of my eyes....
Thanks

I'm really sorry to hear that  Do you know where she could have had it from? My black capped lory caught it once after being on a long course of antibiotics. His immune system was down and made him especially receptive to it. He had a long treatment of the antifungal for 6 weeks and then was checked out again to see if it had gone. Hopefully she will be better in no time! Sending loads of love and good vibes

Thank you deebee..... he thinks she had it cos her immune
system isn't strong.... 8 years ago she had an accident, breaking
her leg and hip...this was set, and she has been a disabled bird
since.... her cage has been adapted to suit her needs....
Since her accident she has been like a baby bird.....
The avian vet reckons, she had it from the air..... nothing else,
fits..... no peanuts, bad food, she always has a very clean cage
and water.....
She is very weary, sleeps many hours at present.....
All I can do is ask for advice.... or thoughts on what I
can try besides her meds....thanks for your input....
I'm hoping someone may have had this in their bird and can give
me some hope.ty

I'm so sorry that you're having this problem. It's my understanding that asper is basically everywhere. A healthy bird can deal with it, but a bird that's sick or weak may not be able to fight it off.

I'm not finding a lot of suggestions on supportive care. My best idea is to give some Pedialyte or Gatorade (or a similar sports drink) instead of or in addition to the honey. The sugar in honey will help with electrolyte replacement, but the other drinks provide salt and other important items in addition to the sugar. There are simple recipes online for making your own electrolyte solution:

Regarding supportive treatment I think that Guardian Angel may be of use to you if you've not already tried it

http://www.northernparrots.com/guardian ... prod6294a/

It has probiotics, prebiotics, energy (I'm assuming they mean electrolytes), vitamins, minerals and digestive support (enzymes?). I have personally not used it myself but I have some at hand should I need it. Very good product from what I have heard!

Fingers and toes crossed for you. Please keep us updated

I'm so sorry. I was hoping to NOT see a message like this, but I was afraid that it would turn out this way. Once asper takes hold it's hard to fight it. I had a friend who lost a Moluccan cockatoo to asper.
