Today my quail laid a very pretty egg :cheery: :cheery: :cheery:

Can I cook it and give it to the tiels? Is it good food or I better give them only normal chicken eggs?

Quail eggs can subsitute for regular eggs as long as they are cooked thouroughly.

I've eaten raw quail eggs in Japan. They're a delicacy there, and they go very nicely with raw Kobe beef sashimi.

I cooked it today. I made a mini-omelette and super-cooked it in the microwave. I tasted a piece myself, it was DELICIOUS!!!
They really are so cute, just like chicken eggs but in miniature :D

Japanese have some delish piece of cuisine... I have never been there alas, my father worked there for two years and was enthusiastic about it... He really liked it there, I remember him saying that their culture is weird but most fascinating. I personally can't agree with some of the things they kill and eat, like dolphins

I don't know much about Quails, so please bare with me :)

Was the Quail hormonal? Will she replace the egg? Does she need a cuddle bone or something for calcium?

I probably mixed Quails up with cockatiels to the extreme lol

I am no expert myself, but this is what I learned from various websites.

One female quail will produce one egg per day, no matter what. It's very rare that she will want to sit on it, she basically lays the egg and ignores it. You leave it where it is, she will make a new one the following day.
Breeders use incubators. Quails are not good mother material, it seems!

Cuttlebone and crushed oyster shells (or other forms of calcium), dark greens and other vegetables help the hen to mantain the high level of calcium and nutrients needed. Let me tell you, they eat everything and like horses
If the hen doesn't have enough calcium she will still lay the egg, but it will be without shell.
