I've tried it. Munch would rather have my finger.
though i sprinkle a few on their ledge and they eat one or two. right now munch cant have many pellets because i worry about the high protein in them. they will sometimes eat soaked pellets but not often.

ill keep trying it though, who knows

i feed them tropican cockatiel lifetime granules. the tiels LOVE it

the lovebirds are the most stubborn creatures ive ever met lol :bang:

If they're eating a little bit now then that's a start. It's possible that they'll never eat a lot of them, and also possible that they'll gradually warm up to them and start eating more. Just make the rest of their diet as balanced as you can.

Have you tried them on Nutriberries? The company says they're equivalent to pellets, and cockatiels at least tend to like them a LOT better than pellets. If you go to http://www.lafebercares.com/contact.html you can contact the company and ask for free samples.

They sent me several different items. Most of it was too tough for the cockatiels, but if lovebirds have more beak strength then maybe they will like the Avicakes and other items.

our tiels love avicakes and nutriberries, but i dont buy them anymore as the only pet store who carries them here is petsmart and i wont shop at our local petsmart for nothing. theyre not very caring for their pets :(

i will see if i can pick them up for them online for christmas :)

do you think its safe for munch to eat pellets now?

I buy the big bucket of Nutriberries from Amazon.com. The price is about three dollars less than Petsmart, there's no sales tax, and if your total purchase is $25 or more the shipping is free. I don't know how the price compares, but you can get Avicakes from Amazon too.

Keep in mind that I don't actually know much about this. But pellets are formulated to provide the amount of protein that the average bird needs. If Munch has some sort of special needs that call for less than average protein consumption then eating a lot of pellets might be bad. But if her needs are average there probably won't be a problem.

i know lovebirds need a higher amount of protein, fat, and calcium than cockatiels. most african species do, but calcium especially because theyre like egg machines :( fingers crossed here for no eggs lol

In that case the cockatiel Nutriberries might even be a little bit low in protein relative to what lovebirds need. It sounds like they should be safe to offer.

Although food labeled "cockatiel" usually isn't made specifically for tiels, it's just the name the pet food industry has adopted for food aimed at birds that are similar in size to cockatiels. That's why Zupreem fruit blend pellets for cockatiels have those little yellow bananas that cockatiels can't eat. Small conures and other birds that have big beaks and hold food in their feet love them.

i always thought feeding pellets was good for ur birds?

becuse my caique i used to have only ate pellets n veggies with seeds as a treat. tho maybe thats just becuse of caiques get fatty liver disease really easy im told.

but when i had tiels i feed em diff things started on pellets, then i feed em seed, then half n half then just pellets.

munch has some problems, suspected metal poisoning that is potentially damaging her kidneys. too much protein isnt good for the kidneys. so pellets, with protein, may damage her kidneys. she cant have too much protein in her diet just in case.
