It is about 50cm, that's 20" but some stems are shorter, and its footprint is immensely smaller than lettuce. You would produce loads of it in a shallow container. I'd like a "maze" tray of it!

I currently have some odd plants growing in the yard that I think might be millet spray. I'm watching to see how they develop.

You know what cockatiels REALLY like? Unripe sorghum seed: http://www.littlefeatheredbuddies.com/i ... ology.html The dry seed is too hard for my guys to crack, and sorghum should NOT be sprouted because the seed produces toxins when it germinates and starts growing. But unripe or dry seed is fine, and cheap wild bird seed is loaded with sorghum (milo) that you can use to grow your own. Here's a picture of a wild cockatiel feasting on sorghum, from http://birdway.com.au/cacatuinae/cockat ... _30683.htm :

I can't take a picture right now because it's dark outside and I didn't find any internet pictures that looked quite like the sorghum that's growing in my yard. But it looks sort of like a very broad-leafed grass, or corn leaves.

That's some kind of grain but it doesn't look like sorghum. The seed heads don't look right. This is weird, but to me it looks more like rice than anything else I've been able to find. The 'standard' grains like wheat and oats have the seeds packed more tightly in the head. Here's a picture of rice on the stalk:

Try breaking open one of the husks to see what's inside.
