When it gets close to time for the eggs to hatch, I am going to start freezing some soft foods. I always have birdie bread in the freezer and last time I froze brown rice, pasta and cooked multi grain cereal. I am looking for some other ideas.

If your birds will eat sweet potato you could cook some of that and freeze it.

Beans. Pippin loves a mix of cooked beans, pasta, and veggies. I get the 15 bean soup mixes (the ones with just beans, no spices and onion). Good for freezing as dried beans are a hassle to prepare since they need to soak overnight.

Beans are a great idea, but be aware that most beans need to be cooked as well as soaked. Beans contain a natural toxin and soaking alone isn't enough to get it out. There are a few exceptions that will be OK if you sprout them until the tail is half an inch long - mung, adzuki, garbanzo (chickpea). Lentils only have to be sprouted to a quarter inch. Everything else needs to be cooked.

Yes, do cook them. They need to soak and then be cooked. Hence the hassle

I read somewhere in a thread about chop that it can be prepared, divided into portions and then frozen.I neve did that and was wondering if someone here does.
You can cook then freeze all the grains birds love : quinoa, bulghour, cuscus, barley. When you thaw them you either add chop or scrambled egg, or even on their own. I add a little olive oil, being Italian I can't bear seeing anyone eating without condiments, even birds

Use the ice cube dish to put the mixture into... easy to take out and you wont waste too much. Pea's bean's lentils rice pasta pulses lots of stuff to freeze.. I find the soup mix from the supper market good for freezing.
