The nutrients aren't as bioavailable in raw sweet potato. It's more nutritious when it's cooked as well as being easier to eat.

Are there other vegetables that are better cooked than raw? My flock is definitely pro cooked food and won't touch the raw version!

Orange vegetables are usually better cooked. For that matter there are some nutrients in green vegetables that are more available when they're cooked. There are also some nutrients that are destroyed by heat, so it's good to have some cooked and some raw to get a little of everything.
