When my cockatieks finished their pellets it will end up with a sandy-like pellet crumbs. I used to throw these out because I thought they would be garbage. I figured out an idea. When the birds finished their pellets and took that sandy pellet "dust" and poured little piles of it on the flat perches. The birds immediate flew their and started eating and foraging it. I also sprinkled some in their food bowls because it's the same texture as Brewers yeast. Let me make a list of benefits.

1.getting the most from your money from buying pellets
2.makes extra fun with eating pellets
3.foraging fun!

Three extra benefits for just saving your pellets instead of throwing it out.
You can put it on a plate and put that on top of your cage!
You can put it on your playgym!
You can use it on the birdie highway!

That's a nice idea. :D

Oh and PS. I believe you are looking for "waste". That waist is like your tummy. ;)

I was typing fast and talking to someone at the same time so my brain was disconnected. Lol

I can't even find that typo. Please don't quote it. It's embarrassing enough.

Good idea! I'll have to try putting the pellet dust in an interesting place to see if the birds go for it there. It doesn't interest them in the original bowl where the pellets were, but they might like it better somewhere else. Birds are quirky.

Now here's an idea for you. I know you like to grow carrot tops for your birds sometimes but this never worked for me. But now I've found a way to grow carrot tops that works even for me! I buy a package of carrot seeds (it costs about a dollar) and plant them. So far I'm getting lots of greens out of it, and if I actually get some carrots from it too that will be a bonus. I've been picking individual leaves instead of pulling the whole plant out of the ground, but that would be an option too.

Yes, birds are really quirky. They couldn't care less about the pellet dust when they are in the same bowl. It's like left overs for them. I also feed to to them with my fingers. I just take a pinchful with my fingers and they stick their beaks in and eat it.

That's a great idea for carrot tops! I actually stopped growing carrot tops because I was breeding mosquitoes when I didn't clean out the water daily. I tried planting the carrot top in dirt but it wasn't successful. I can plant more carrot tops but I'll have to clean them more frequently to avoid breeding mosquitoes. Seeing little worms in the water was seriously gross. Another problem I have with carrot tops is that I get super sensitive and feel bad for all the carrot tops in the kitchen because they have a potential to grow and we are killing them. I had over 10 carrot tops in my room because of this. I originally only wanted 2.
