I just checked to see if my bird seeds have expired or not by sprouting them. After I put them in water for over a day, I checked them and none of then sprouted. I'm wondering, what will happen if they eat the seeds? There isn't mold, insects, or anything like that. It looks completely normal. I stopped feeding him the seeds and I'm feeding him pellets that I just bought. What will happen if I do feed him the seeds? My mom doesn't really believe me because she feels like they put a date on seeds so you can buy more. BTW there was no date on the seeds. I told her I sprouted them but she didn't know how to respond.

Keep them moist for another day or two to see what happens. If they still don't sprout the seeds have lost most of their nutritional value, and he'll get less nourishment than he would from fresher seeds. It's best to throw them out for the wild birds and get new seed for the conure.

There's no harm in feeding the seeds to your conure other than he'll fill his belly with almost no nutrition in the mass he has eaten.

So yeah, it's logical to throw out the 'old' seeds to get new seeds that do have a higher nutritional value.

Your mom probably doesn't know about this, hence the baffled response :duck:

You need to keep them moist but not completely soaked in water after the initial period of soaking
