Yes Mel, they can. They have all the nutrients of seeds, and all the nutrients of pellets but you will still have to supplement with fruits and veggies. Great question though. :)

Nutriberries can be part of the PELLET portion of the diet. They look like seeds but they're really more than that.

My birds eat less vegetables in the winter too. Natural instinct probably plays a part in this. Wild birds have more access to fresh green plants in the summer than in the winter, so they have to eat more dry seed and less fresh vegetables in the winter.

If they're still eating pellets they're getting the nutrients that vegetables provide, although not as much unless they started eating more pellets when they stopped eating vegetables. They'll start eating vegetables again when they're ready.

But didn't you say earlier that I can feed nutriberries as a main diet? If so, wouldn't that cover both the seeds and pellets needs? Also,

Does this mean *for example* that if my bird eats only pellets, will that mean that I won't have to feed him vegetables (nutrition wise, not foraging wise.)

Yes, Nutriberries can be fed as the main diet because they're equivalent to pellets. Nutriberries have a better nutritional content than plain seeds, which are deficient in some pretty important nutrients. But Nutriberries have the foraging value of seeds as far as the bird is concerned.

Pellets are formulated to provide complete nutrition (meaning 100% of everything the bird needs) when they're fed as at least 80% of the diet. A bird that's eating 80% or more pellets doesn't need vegetables from the nutritional point of view. But that's a pretty boring diet, and they do need other foods from the foraging/psychological point of view.

Seeds aren't needed at all from a nutritional point of view, as long as there's something else in the diet that's providing the proper nutrients. I don't know how much seed sun conures eat in the wild. But a bird like a cockatiel whose wild diet is just about 100% seeds probably has a strong instinctive desire to eat seeds.
