Ok. I bought a brand new seed mix from Petsmart. It was Kaytee's seed mix. I never bought seed mixes from Kaytee, but since I loved their bird formula, I decided to buy it.

Anyways, I found live caterpillars, moths, and some weird ant-bug in the seed mix. The caterpillars where trying to climb out of the bin. The moth flew out the second I opened the package.

How can I prevent buying bug seed mixes? Is it bad for birds to eat the bug seed mix? I definitely fed Cheerio the seed mix before.

The bags that seed mix come in are usually clear or partly clear, so you can look at it to make sure it's OK. The when you get it home, stick it in the freezer overnight to kill any eggs that might be in there. Then keep it in some kind of sealed container, like a plastic box are a glass jar, so nothing new can get in. Insect infestations are hard to avoid in the summer, and I have to do this even here in Arizona where we don't have many bugs compared to other places.

I keep most of the seed in the freezer all the time to help preserve the nutritional value. But I take out enough to last about a week and keep it in a glass jar on the counter.

Had this happen once to me.....
Mine was a bad batch of seed...
I binned it all.....
Collude it be something to do with the heat
where you live?

I never had that happen i got zorro a new seed mix this month.
Its great lots of goodies.
Zorro dont like the millet/filler they put in seed 4 birds his size n smaller so i got this. Seems to be a hit.
