Do you really clip them just because of the front door danger?
I can tell you that my birds NEVER attempt to fly out the front door when they are not invited. I know this sounds strange, but when I put up screens to turn my front porch into bird aviary, I open the front doors to let them out. in all other situations, when aviary screens are not up and front porch is just a front porch but not an aviary, they never even try to get out, like if they know there is danger there (well, all sorts of wild bird sounds can be heard from there, so indeed, outdoors is a dangerous place) . I have 2 doors at the front - the door itself that opens into the house, and screen house door that opens outward. Very often the front door is open but the screen is not, and when I go thru the screen in or out the house, they just stay away from that opening screen door. Seems that they very well distinguish situations when it's "outdoor time" and when it's not.
