Susanne is an amazing information source, but she's as human as anyone else and has her limitations. Her advice is based on her own experience, and if something seems to work she assumes that it does what it's claimed to do and doesn't consider whether something else might have actually caused the effect. If science says that it can't possibly work that way she assumes that science is wrong.

I'm basically the opposite. Science is based on objective evidence, and it CAN be wrong if the evidence is incomplete or has been misinterpreted. But it's less likely to be wrong than subjective experience and anecdotal reports. So when I hear claims like this I try to find out whether there's any objective evidence to support it, and try to figure out whether there's something else that might have caused the effect. Even when it looks like something really does work, I use weasel words like "it seems to work" instead of "it really works".
