My budgie (Niko) has been acting really strange and I cant seem to find anything on it...here's the story:
So I bought my first 2 budgies (Jasper and Misty), and they paired up. Then, after about 6 months I got 2 more (Scarlet and Niko).
But Niko has been trying to steal Misty from Jasper. And that leads to the 2 males to fight. They Often lock their feet together and fall to the bottom of the cage! He is not even interested in Scarlet. I have had them long enough to KNOW I have 2 females and 2 males. I have even tried to put Niko and Scarlet into a separate cage together in a different room but that does nothing.
Then! If Niko doesnt get Misty, he will go to the side of the cage, and basically "Breed" With the cage. :bang: ...he rubs his belly against the cage and then his little "breeding tool" Comes out.

I've had them all together for over a year now, but its the same story.
So I guess my question is: Is it normal for Budgies to steal other budgies mates?
AND
Is it normal for a male budgie to "mate" with the cage???

PLEASE HELP!

It's normal for birds to compete for mates, and it's also normal for them to masturbate. Anybody with multiple birds will probably have a soap opera going on in their house. I certainly do lol.

You can use hormone control techniques to reduce this behavior. There's info on that on the main website: http://www.littlefeatheredbuddies.com/i ... mones.html The article was written for cockatiels but it should work for budgies too. Life will be easier for everyone if their hormones aren't raging, and they don't need to be hormonal unless you actually want to breed them.

Oh yes budgies do that... they also like the back of your hand too!
Its normal behaviour for them, so don't worry...

Thank you so much! I couldn't find anything on it! I'll try that hormone controlling technique :cheery:
Thanks!
