So I adopted another tiel yesterday! He was housed with a budgie and had to be adopted together. :)
The previous owner told the shelter they were bonded, but the tiel was being bullied terribly by the budgie.

They're separated now and the tiel is as happy as a clam, but the budgie seems depressed. She's not very vocal and not as active compared to when she was caged with the tiel. Could she be lonely?

Well hello again. I'm sure you'd like another opinion other than my own, but, hen budgies aren't that chatty. Normally they just make angry chatter, "mount me" noises and ACK ACK. Cock budgies chitter chatter and make a wide verity of sounds.

She could also be frightened separated from her tiel cage mate.

Hey Rowdy!!

congrats on your new addition! I would love to see some photos when you get a chance!

The budgie may be lonely, but no matter what, the budgie is better off alone, than bullying the cockatiel.

I am not sure what you can do about the loneliness. Does she like to socialize with humans at all?

welcome back! :D

Thanks to you both!

Years ago I had budgies and they were SO chatty and noisy, I guess I was just expecting that from this little gal too. (But then, they were males too.)

And, no, Baruch. Neither of them have ever been handled and the budgie is pretty scared of hands and people. I was able to feed her some millet through the bars though, whereas the cockatiel ignored me. XD

Here are a few photos!
Budgie photos! The best i could get. Fast little bugger!

Your new tiel and budgie are so cute! Good luck on taming/training them! BTW, the pics are really good!

they are so adorable! These birds are really lucky to have you. I love his crest. It has a nice curl. The budgie seems really hyper. :)

I can't wait until quarantine is over!!

Are they still in the same room where they can see each other? If they are, they're still in contact with each other (just not as close) so the budgie still has a buddy. Maybe the budgie needs more time to get used to his new home. They're very cute!

Love the color of that budgie, and the tiel is really cute as well.

We actually split they're cage [top to bottom] (budgie is now in the tops and tiel is in the bottom) - so they can't see each other unless we put their cage on the table in front of the large living room mirror.
I let them out together this evening, and the tiel climbed into the budgie's half and the budgie got excited.
They're mostly fine when they're outside of the cage together, but it really was awful inside. :( She actually ended up chasing him out later and yanked some feathers off his back in the process.

It's confusing for me and a little frustrating, because they seem to enjoy each other's company, but the budgie can be terrible toward the tiel.

And I have another concern too. The tiel's droppings, I've noticed, are very tiny. As in, about the same size as the budgie's. This isn't normal for a tiel, is it? Missy's droppings are much larger.
