Last week I made a difficult decision.

The two budgies had been getting more and more noisy. They were also competing for Emma's attention, and I was feeling that she was a bit fed up with constant budgies in the face. When I was giving out treats, Snowy was being very aggressive, and Emma wasn't getting any (because she's more shy).

My neighbor across the street came over for a visit and remarked on how noisy the budgies were. I mentioned that I had been kind of thinking about rehoming one or both of them. She said she would take one, and I gave her Snowy.

My neighbor and her husband are real bird people. They had a cockatiel for fifteen years. It died a few months ago. They have a large cage, and it was empty.

I know Snowy will have a good home with them. In fact, they went out later that day and bought a second budgie at Petco so that Snowy will have a friend. I asked her whether she was sure two budgies wouldn't be too noisy for her, but she said she was fine with it.

Since Snowy left the noise in the bird cage has been much more within what I can cope with. Snowy was the loudest and the most aggressive. Now when I give out treats even Emma comes to my arm and gets some. She has also started spontaneously flying to my laptop to say hello. She will then come onto my wrist and I give her a treat. She is spending more time out of the cage. She still uses the basket to get up off the floor. She seems to have completely recovered from the trauma of having her wings clipped.

I am sad about Snowy. However, I have to say that the chemistry among the three remaining birdies is very good. Even though it's hard to give up a bird, I think things have proved that it was for the best.

It must have been hard to rehome Snowy, but I think that was Emma's way of thanking you.

It's hard to make choices like that but it sounds like it was for the best. Snowy is still nearby so you might be able to visit with him sometimes.

I'm glad it all worked out for the best. Budgies aren't the greatest friends with cockatiels.

These decisions are the worst a bird person must face.
At least you can monitor how he's doing in the new environment, and if needed you can always take him back. I wish I had that choice when I rehomed one of mines and it turned out to be the worst mistake I've ever made.
Hopefully it will all work for the best!
