I used to have a normal lamp in the bird room, one of those you clamp, and when it was bed time I'd cover it more and more to make them sleepy and make the transfer to the cages easier.
They were usually semi-asleep and nobody resisted going in the cage.

Last week I went to IKEA and saw this super tacky and super cute wall lamp shaped as a heart, so I bought it for them.
Being the heart red, it gives red light.
Since I put that on and eliminated the normal clamp light, I have noticed that they are a lot more skittish when it's bed time. It seems like they don't get sleepy at all!

Could the red light be the reason, or it's just a coincidence and they are being naughty for their own reasons?
I tried to google light colours + birds but didn't find anything really useful, so I was wondering if any of you had a similar experience changing the light colour for their birds.

I've not tried coloured lights with my birds, but I do use UVA bird lighting...
I turn all lights off about 10 mins before I cover them for the night...
I say lights out time for bed, and 2 of them shout night night Jan lights out roost up!

The light color might have an effect, and blue lights are supposed to be good for a night light because it sort of simulates the colors you'd get under natural moonlight. I'd think that a red light would simulate the color of sunset, but you know how birds are - anything different freaks them out.

Yes maybe it was this giant heart who freaked them out, or maybe the colour...
I am happy to report that since I took the bulb out and reintroduced the good old clamp light they are back to non-skittish. They still don't go sit on it, that might take a while, but at least they don't fly away for every single small noise or movement

You could always put the new lamp in the room part time to help them get used to it, then take it out when you need non-skittish birds.

Personally I have never needed a skittish bird lol. But there are times when it's more important for the bird to be non-skittish, like when you're trying to get them to go back in the cage.
