Ok, so I've been trying to teach this to Coyote for a week now. That is a tiring song to whistle over and over again so this morning I found some youtube versions of it I was playing for him and he liked. So far, his version of the song is something like this:

wolf whistle, whatchadoin?, you're a pretty bird, a pretty bird, pretty bird, you are! meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeow. (insert small part of sitting on the dock of the bay here, random revolving parts), pretty bird you're a pretty bird, whatchadoin?, wolf whistle, if you're happy and you know it go like this tsk! tsk!

So yeah. I don't know if it's the song or the fact that he's a bit older now but he picked up happy and you know it and sitting on the dock of the bay much faster than this! I also have no idea why he seems to be interpreting the song more into words than whistles but it's pretty cute. My cheeks hurt thinking about how much more I'll be whistling this song, lol.

It sounds like maybe he's more interested in writing his own music than in singing what somebody else wrote. His work is pretty derivative though.

I understood "pretty bird" a long time ago and only in the last couple of months have the other words started to become more clear. At first I thought he was just making weird grumbly sounds and then I realized he was talking but had no idea what he was saying. Then the meeeeeeeoooow was deciphered (my cat has a yowl-y type meow) and then the variations on pretty bird were figured out and finally "whatcha doin?". I didn't plan on teaching him any of that, he just picked it up. He seems to be more into talking than music I guess.

There are some really funny videos of cockatiels beatboxing on youtube. That'll never happen here but by god, I'll get him to whistle the good the bad and the ugly!

Good, bad, and ugly? More like "The pretty, the curious, and the vocal". I'd love to see a video of Coyote talking. Cockatiel voices sound so... interesting.
