Today I was eating biscuits and cheese and Emma not only flew to my arm, but stayed for several minutes. What a change!

I am wondering if she is more comfortable because she is now able to fly again. Then, I start wishing I wasn't taking them in to be clipped on Tuesday. But, I really think it's the right thing to do, if for no other reason than because I don't want them going out the front door when I have to take the trash out.

It's a dilemma. I think a compromise would be for me to ask the vet to clip them slightly less than he did last time.

I think you shouldn't worry about things like that and let them enjoy their life too to the fullest, they know too when your worrying about them.Just make sure to close doors and windows or even put them in their cages when your putting out the trash.

Usually I put the birds in their cage when I have to go out. I understand that's hard to do with a bird like Emma, who is afraid of you.

Do you have a room away from the front door that can act as a bird room? I think having a bird away from the front or back door is more convenient. Unfortunately my own house is set up strangely, so the current room my birds are in has a door that leads to the back yard. Luckily, there's a second door on the other side of the house that leads to the yard. My own room doesn't have enough space to turn into a bird room either.

Do you really clip them just because of the front door danger?

I can tell you that my birds NEVER attempt to fly out the front door when they are not invited. I know this sounds strange, but when I put up screens to turn my front porch into bird aviary, I open the front doors to let them out. in all other situations, when aviary screens are not up and front porch is just a front porch but not an aviary, they never even try to get out, like if they know there is danger there (well, all sorts of wild bird sounds can be heard from there, so indeed, outdoors is a dangerous place) . I have 2 doors at the front - the door itself that opens into the house, and screen house door that opens outward. Very often the front door is open but the screen is not, and when I go thru the screen in or out the house, they just stay away from that opening screen door. Seems that they very well distinguish situations when it's "outdoor time" and when it's not.
