The best treat is your bird's favorite food - something that you can easily withhold from his regular food in the cage and give to him as a special treat. For example sunflower seeds are popular with a lot of birds, and many of the bigger parrots like some kind of nut. For some birds a bite of millet spray is very rewarding.

You want the treat to be something very small that he can eat quickly, and that you can give to him many times before he gets full. If you use sunflower seed or nuts, you would want to break them into pieces and give him a small piece not the whole thing. If he does something especially good you can give him more as a "jackpot" reward.

Using millet spray as a training treat can be tricky. My birds quickly figured out that I was only going to let them take one or two quick bites, so they started taking huge bites that tore off several seeds. Then they could take their time eating all these seeds.

My guys like cantaloupe seed as a reward, but I've never been able to find anyone selling it except as a very small part of a seed mix. To get it, I buy cantaloupe at the grocery store and dry the seeds.

Whatever he likes most is the best treat. Don't give him too much to eat and take it away at mid bite to encourage him to want more.

Then nuts are the best treats! Break them up so the pieces are about the size of half a sunflower seed, or even a little smaller.

Did one training session yesterday not sure how long it takes till they regonize the sound. Is using different treats okay? Or just stick with 1? Watched few videos. Tried to get a book on it but seems library didn't have it so only amazon has it.

I think the books are quite good. I have one called Clicker Training for Birds.

When my budgies were with me for about six weeks I started clicker training them. They learned very quickly, even though there were two of them. At first it was hard because they would both go after the treat. The woman who wrote one of the books advised me on her mail group to reward one budgie for the task, and the other for staying in the bullpen (a freestanding training perch). It was a great suggestion. I actually got them to turn the wheel on a little plastic ferris wheel.
