The tiels don't make me think of the rain forest but Dweezil's noises do. When he's on a roll I say "it's a jungle in here".

If anything, a bunch of cockatiels or budgies would sound more like you're out in the bush area of Australia, or something.

Parrotlets are native to Ecuador though, which I'm pretty sure is on the more tropical side. So people wouldn't be too far off to say Jan's house sound like a rainforest.

So I found this video:
phpBB [video]

In addition to the pearling, the owner said she had been DNA tested and even laid eggs.
So I guess while whistling in female cockatiels isn't necessarily common, it's not impossible for them to have a clear whistling voice.

That move is often called "bat wings" (when the bird does it upside down) or some variation of 'eagle wings'. It's a more female type of behavior, although it's not limited to girls.

Mine do this!! When I have a dayshift I Go in early to feed them and refresh the water. I have to get close to two nestboxes to do this and the Hens come hanging out of the nestbox Wings wide open. They tend to beat their Wings every 5 seconds and sway from side to side while doing it.

The funny thing about Alex is that she'll do the "bat wings" more while upright and on flat(ish) surface than she would while hanging upside down. Sometimes she does it when she sees wild birds flying. She'll just run around with her wings open and either fly, or just stand there after a while.

Also has a tendency to flap when she's playing with the toys in their cage. Alex has a tendency to literally hang on the toys and flap around, causing the toy to spin. She's quite a fan of hanging toys.

Lucy on the other hand will actually hang upside down while doing the bat wings. Although sometimes she'll just start flapping really hard for no particular reason. Possibly that she just Luke's to exercise her wings. She appears to get enjoyment out of being able to fly around the room, so it's possible. Wonder if she takes pride in her powerful wings (she is a really good flyer compared to Alex).
