He is 4 months old. I handfed him and he's the sweetest thing.

One thing though, He just started biting me hard for no expected reason. He just goes into attack mode. It's only temporarily. What is causing him to randomly want to bite me? It's like one second I'm holding him to perch, then he's on my lap and will attack any finger in sight.

When he bites me I shake my fingers off and ungrip his beak from my fingers.

I did expect this because he is a peach faced, but the bite still hurts.

Is he old enough to be hitting puberty? Cockatiels can be frisky at that age so it wouldn't surprise me if a lovebird could too. He might not be hormonal exactly, but feeling sassy and throwing his weight around.

If you can figure out exactly what is triggering the bites, you might be able to avoid them. For example if moving your fingers while he's on your lap is what does it, then you can try to avoid doing that while you're in bite range.

Probably not love bites lol. Probably more like "I don't like what you're doing so knock it off!" bites.

Thanks! I think it happens when he wants to nibble my bracelet. It happens randomly too. I started cupping my hands over his face when he goes through that face to show him I'm "scarier"

How old is he now? They start to get a bit hormonal quite early on compared to a lot of birds! He could also just be throwing a paddy because he wants to nibble everything and dad won't let him :bigsmile100:

You know I read somewhere that when they get excited, the energy they feel
is a lot similar to their anxious or angry energy, and therefore leads to aggression.

So it's quite possible that he's getting too excited, and is exerting that energy through biting.

Alex does that sometimes too, and when she gets too excited, she either gets really aggressive, or ends up flying around the room several times because of the energy.
Doesn't help the fact that she's also the most excitable out of all of them.

I would reccomend trying to encourage independent playtime, where he's playing with his own toys as opposed to looking to you for playtime. That way he'll focus all his excitable aggression on his own toys.

Plus, the more used to independent play that a bird is, the better the chances you would have to be able to do your own thing in peace with your bird still in the room. Of course this doesn't keep my own birds (Alex especially) from trying to "help" me type on my laptop or do anything on my iPad, but I digress.

Sorry, autocorrect. That's supposed to say "they".

Apple devices are not good at correcting typos.
