There are moments where I don't get much time to let the birds out. Times where they'll be stuck in their cage for days, even weeks. Because of this, Alex isn't nearly as clingy and just not willing to step up all the time, and my attempt at gaining Georgie's trust have been at a bit of a standstill (he steps up for me and doesn't completely freak out when my hand is near him so he's still pretty good for now). I feel like they might have held some grudges, but Lucy isn't really that different.

There are times where she wouldn't want scritches because she's too busy exploring the room again, but she still flies to me, she still tries to "help" me with my work, perches on my laptop and just still acts as friendly towards me as she always does. I would expect her to be at least a little mad for not letting her out to destroy things and exercise her wings by flying as much as I used to be able to, but she isn't. She still trusts me as much as she has despite interactions being really minimal.

Her ability to forgive me for areas where I may fail as an owner sometimes is just amazing. It's like she just seems to understand that sometimes I get too busy, or sometimes I just don't have the energy to deal with them.

Just another way she never ceases to amaze me.

I wonder if it's because she was raised to be OK with humans and/or birds. Alex had a "special" childhood and I'd expect her to be mainly socialized to humans, since she didn't have much parent contact as a baby. I don't remember what Georgie's background is like (if I ever knew it at all) but it sounds like he's mainly socialized to birds.

But Lucy can go both ways. She enjoys you when you're available and enjoys the other birds when you're not.

It's lovely to have that relationship. It's like my hawk. Whenever the falconry season is over and he's put away in his aviary to moult I leave him be and don't work with him at all. As soon as I catch him up again, trim and reshape his beak and put his equipment on it's like nothing ever changed. 13 years and he still amazes me
