Kermit has recently developed a habit of chewing the bars on the cage grate. He does this in one particular spot and seems to be doing it to attract attention. The powder coating on the cage shows no damage so far, but I’m worried that if he keeps up with this he’ll start to chip the coating and ingest it. What can I do to prevent him from doing this? I don’t want to remove the grate as he’d go to the paper and walk around in his poop or eat old food that he dropped.

You could put something on top of it so he can't reach the grate to chew on it. A flat, clean stone isn't a bad option if the grate is strong enough to handle the weight. Kermit can chew on that instead and make his beak nice and sharp lol.
