The drying time will vary - it depends on how thick the slab is and the current weather conditions.

If you go with metal poles, nails probably won't be an effective fastener. You could drill a hole in the pole and use a nut and bolt. I prefer screws/bolts over nails even with wood. With screws you can take it apart easily if you need to replace a component. Nails aren't designed for this and will usually cause some damage to the wood if you have to pull it out.

I've never done any metal-pole construction, but I suspect that metal clamps and brackets might work better for some purposes. A walk through a large hardware store like Home Depot will give you a good idea of what's available.

This aviary-building guide tells you to solder the wire to metal poles: http://www.ehow.com/how_8735526_build-o ... rrots.html That's a good idea, although I think I'd want the soldered part to be on the outside of the aviary, not the inside part where the birds might chew it.

Uchh, sorry. I totally meant screw. As you can see, I know nothing about building things

I think my mom is going to call a professional person to do it. I think it will be even more dangerous than now if I make it. I don't think my grandfather would want to help either. He has to go to work and he is starting to get old. He is going through some health problems and will need to heal. He needs to sleep with an oxygen mask at night.

It's got good reviews, and a few of the reviews mention using it for "animal habitats" or bird houses. Haven't used it myself.

I was thinking about the aviary and I think I thought of a good idea.

When I have the concrete slab on and once it's dry, instead of putting wood on the concrete, how about I make a wood base around the concrete and build from their? I don't know how to explain it well but I hope you guys understood me.

Yes, I get it, build a frame around the concrete floor. I see.

Thank you for understanding! :D I feel like it will be wobbly. If I screw it in with plumbers tape. How do you think it will turn out? Safe? Or not?

I talked to my mom about the idea. She asked if we can reuse the wood. Is there a way I can kill the spores and fungus? Will that paint do the job?

Can you fasten it to the cement with some sort of adhesive?

That's great! What type of adhesive is best? Should I stick the wood on while the cement is drying?
