Hello everyone.

I recently saw a video on one of Barbra's threads and I saw one of the most luckiest cockatiels. I want my aviary to be fun and active, meaning, I want a lot of toys and perches, but I still want room for flying.

Here is my aviary right now, I know, very little toys, but I am going to buy a lot more.

Anyone know a website that carries good cockatiels toys and perches but won't cost an arm and a leg.

Any toys that you have for your birds that they really like would be helpful!

I rarely buy toys or perches. I either hack the branches myself and recycle old odds and ends to make toys. I get all my other toys for holidays from relatives because I guess I'm hard to buy for. If I do end up with something bigger I'm going to have to get new materials.

You could try My Safe Bird Store.

Cardboard (not painted and with no printed stuff on it) is the best material to make toys for them.
I refuse to spend loads of money for something they will destroy in five minutes (other toys they never played with).
If you buy some different types and diameters of natural rope, beads, untreated leather strings, stuff like that, you can make some awesome toys yourself, better than the ones you can buy.

There are some toys we can't make, like the great mirror toy Stephanie bought for her babies... only buy those you REALLY like and are sure you can't make yourself!

You were asking about the bird shower: you only need about 3ft of pvc pipes with two L joints, an aquarium pump, a plastic box with a lid (you have to make loads of holes so it has to be something you will never need again for anything else, one 1lt bottle of water. That's about it, all very cheap.

Thank you so much for the tips Stephanie and Barbra!
I really appreciate it!

Barbra, thank you for the instructions on the bird shower! I already have all that's needed besides for the pipes. I know what store I'm going to be in tomorrow :D

I already know where it's going to be!

I'm going to hold off on the bird shower until when Marshmallow is done with the nest. That corner used o be the most popular place but now, if they go there, they will get bitten.
I didnt keep track of how long they had the nest, so I'm going to make sure that they fully reject it (meaning other birds can go in without then biting) and I'll remove it that day so no other birds get hormonal.

Baruch, I haven't forgotten the promise. As soon as I find the camera tripod I will make the shower video!
I think I know which box I put it in... :?

Don't worry, take your time! Remember, you are doing me a favor. You don't have to if you don't want to. :)

Take all your time you need. I'm not rushing you. You need to take care of your new home and birds :)

Wow your all so busy making stuff....
I'm sticking to the spritzer bottle for
showering my birds...
I don't have an aviary, just 5 cages....
Lots of toys can be made from paper cases
which are used for cake making....
My birds luv them I hang them up on a beaded
string and they chew them, makes a mess but
boy they luv them...
Empty loo rolls in the cages make for fun for the birds
also kitchen paper tubes... they even wriggle threw them...

Video posted! I hope you will understand what I say, even though it's not that important, and forgive my birds who were so uncooperative the whole time! I even had Darcy bite me when I tried to grab Bubu to put him in the water

Yes, you built a new aviary lol.

A cockatiel's second favorite form of entertainment is destroying stuff (the #1 favorite hobby is making more cockatiels). You can use the leftover bits of wood from building the aviary to make some bird toys. Even if you do nothing more than drill holes in a few pieces and string them together, the birds will enjoy it. You could also make perches/swings that hang from the ceiling as well as the traditional side-to-side perches, using either natural branches or leftover construction lumber.
