What's better, to use newspaper or bedding for the bottom of the cage? I have a removable grate on the bottom. I am using newspapers right now but I find that it's too flat so the seeds get under the newspaper which takes more work. Would bedding be easier to clean? I just need to remove the poop from the bedding and change it once a week or so. Would that make things easier or harder?

I use aspen bedding for the cockatiels and paper towels with the budgies because they flutter in the cage and get aspen all over the place.

when we got Chipper and Trillie, they came with some kind of corn bedding that people gave us with birds. Then my husband emptied it into trash bag in garage to throw away later and that's when we got mice in garage who came for that corn!!! its a whole thriller story! then I was live-catching them because I am too kind to kill them, and driving them to the wildlife park in a tall bucket. One time I trapped one adult mouse and her tiny baby... I think it was rather cruel to let them out in the huge park. I feel bad.
Since that I don't use any bedding.

I think the aspen bedding is harder to clean.

It cleans the same as paper towels actually. Just take out the bottom and dump it in the trash bin. Replace. I don't do daily cleans, but I change it when it looks dirty.

With Tikos cage the bedding used to stick to the tray and sometimes there would be little worms or bugs at the bottom even though the cage isnt very dirty

Newspaper is generally considered to be better. Bedding gets wet from poop, dropped food, spilled water, etc and it holds the moisture better than newspaper does, so it can turn into a mold and bacteria hazard.

I use newspaper, and I get rid of the stuff that goes underneath the paper by turning the tray sideways to dump it out after I've removed the dirty paper on top.

I've never had an issue with mold. I also love the smell of it. Once it combines with the scent of cockatiel, it smells, heavenly.
