It's possible that there was some kind of fumes or toxin in the air that got both of them.

Maybe.They breed their birds so no new birds from some strange place can come into the store with a sickness unless its a bird that was found.They did bring in a cockatiel and she had a broken wing she was found on the road and she will never be able to use that wing again.

I have seen some toucan-specialized pellets, though. I think it was Roudybush that was selling them.
