The latch on the deck door isn't secure. A bird who's inside the cage can't open it, but if there's another bird on top of the cage they can easily open the door and set the bird inside free. My cockatiels actually do this sometimes.

Oh, my birds wouldn’t do that... but if they did, I would at least be there to supervise them. Don’t give Pearl any ideas!

Ducky can almost open the spring loaded side doors on her cage. She actually tries quite often. The safety concern is that she would try to squeeze out and the door would shut on her...

I cannot use twist ties to secure the doors because she could chew on them and ingest the plastic or wire. I might use zip ties in the meantime, but I think I’m gonna get that HQ cage.

I use swivel clips (aka dog leash clips) to securely lock the spring-loaded doors. A safety pin will work too, as long as your birds don't figure out how to open it. Most birds never do, but I once had a chick that figured it out and she went around unlocking all the cage doors just for fun.

I like to use swivel clips on some cage doors and safety pins on others. With some cage doors, one particular type works better than the other. I like the swivel clips on the spring-loaded doors because they don't let the door have as much range of motion as the safety pins do.

You can buy these clips on Ebay and other places. For example: https://www.ebay.com/itm/5pcs-Metal-Spr ... 2154934468 They come in a variety of sizes, so check the measurements to make sure it's a suitable size. Hardware stores like Home Depot will probably have them too, but they might be cheaper online.

It's nice, but it wouldn't fit through the birdroom doorway!

Huge cage but bar spacing is 1” which is too big for small parrots. I really like this cage, might end up getting it for Ducky:

Or should I get this one:

Personally I would like the food cups to be higher in the first cage. The HQ cage looks an awful lot like the Prevue cages with a different door design. They certainly come with the same type of food cups as the Prevue cages. I HATE those food cups, they're very inconvenient. I replaced them with metal "coop cups" that I bought on Ebay or Amazon, and they work great. The food cups were the only thing about the Prevue cage that I didn't like.

Yes, I noticed that the food cups were on the bottom in the elegant flight. It has so much room though. I already have stainless steel coop cups in Ducky’s cage, and would plan on using them if I got the second cage.

I ended up ordering this cage for Ducky:

http://a.co/8AasoHc

It should come on Wednesday. It’s 32x21, which is almost the same as Kermit’s cage (32x23). Ducky’s Prevue cage I will give to my friend whose budgies need an upgrade.

Here are some pics of Kermit’s cage, all set up:

Kermit is very happy with his new home. He often refused to go in his old cage but now he hops right in. Putting him in the cage is such a breeze! (unlike Pearl, aka stinker)

Nice!

Here's a little trick that can make it easier to put birds in the cage. Give them a little treat when you put them in the cage, either after they're already in or when you're about to put them in, depending on which way work better. And sometimes, don't close the door after you put them in! They'll learn that going in the cage isn't always a bad thing. Sometimes they get treats when it happens, and it doesn't always mean that they're going to be locked up.
