Yesterday I went to Pet Supplies Plus. They had two conures in a cage. One was a green cheek. He seemed very personable and climbed right over to see me when I talked to him. He was a very pretty bird. I was a bit smitten. He was also very expensive: $599.00.
This is New York, so prices are high, I guess. Also, I really don't need any more birds. Do conures chew things up as much as cockatiels do?

Yes, conures do chew a lot. Green cheeks have a more powerful beak than a tiel so expect a little more chewing. You can find a much better price at a breeder. Pet stores will always have higher prices than buying directly from a breeder.

I don't know about general chewing, but they're more nippy than a cockatiel.

Thanks. Good to know! There don't seem to be many breeders in my area, which surprises me. Before I got my budgies and then before I got my first cockatiel I looked around, and couldn't find any breeders. I found one bird group, but it was very small (about a dozen members) and none of the members were breeders.
