I see tiny black feathers on both of baby#1 and#2's wings! Does that mean normal grey?

Adorable pictures, and I especially like the last one. The angle of the wings seems to say "hey, I'm cool".

It's too soon to tell what color the pinfeathers really are at this point. I can't even see them in the picture lol. I have a hard time telling the difference between grey pins and cinnamon pins until they're fairly far advanced.

The youngest baby has his toes clenched in the last picture. Keep an eye on him to make sure he doesn't do this all the time. If he does seem to keep them clenched a lot, you could gently straighten them out several times a day to help him develop a more normal foot position.

Thank you so much Carolyn and Stephanie!

Bio is a great daddy!

Why does Marshmallow bite the babies head, wings and feet? I hope she isn't trying to pluck them.

Will do! I'll keep a close eye. Thanks!

I see little black dots on the two oldest wings. I took a great picture, but when I was deleting the useless photos I took, I must've deleted that one because I thought it was a duplicate.

You can see it if you zoom in here Image

Yes, I can see a tiny little trace of pinfeathers! Much too soon to be sure whether it's grey or cinnamon though.

Marshmallow shouldn't be biting at the babies. Next time you have them out, inspect them carefully to make sure they don't have mites or anything that she might be trying to get rid of. And make more sodium sources available to the parents. Sodium deficiency is a common problem with breeding birds, and they often try to solve the problem by plucking the babies. If they'll eat vegetables, red chard is an excellent source of sodium and lots of other nutrients. Celery is high in sodium too but doesn't have a lot of other nutrients. Salt wheels made for rodents can be very useful. Susanne recommends a small bit of whole-grain bread spread with butter, but my birds refused to eat this. If all else fails you could even let them have a small potato chip - it's not health food but it does provide lots of salt.

Thank you!

I am going to ask my mom to get some red chard.

My birds love bread, so I'll try that as well

Thank you!

I think the parents are plucking the babies! If you look at the first photo I posted yesterday with Marshmallow with her 4 chicks in the nest, you will notice there is something red on the side of her beak. I am noticing it on Bio as well! The babies heads are bald and when I gave them whole grain bread with butter, they dived for it! Your birds didn't eat it because of the butter? My birds are only eating the butter.

I also gave them celery but Bio only took a bite.

That's right, my birds wouldn't eat it because of the butter. They wouldn't even eat the bread underneath it and leave the butter behind, which surprised me. Plain whole-grain bread is their favorite baby food and they eat tons of it. And Shodu loves to steal bites of the whole-grain bread with melted butter on it that I eat for breakfast. But the butter wasn't melted on the pieces I gave them, so they wouldn't touch it. I don't remember whether I tried giving them bread with melted butter last year, but I'll try it this year and see what happens.

Susanne thinks sodium-deprived parent birds pluck the babies because there's a small amount of blood on the feather quill, and blood contains sodium. I think she's right, because providing more sodium will stop this kind of plucking. Your babies are much too young for the parents to be plucking them in an effort to make them fledge. So hopefully the plucking problem will end soon now that they're getting more sodium.
