Thanks Diane and Cloudy Skies. The cinnamons are even prettier in life than on the picture. I agree about their soft colors --beautiful! Stella, the pearl, is probably the beauty queen here our pied guys from the first clutch are pretty handsome too. But every clutch we have a chick who is kind of ugly, with dark beak and dark wings and not much white/yellow (almost like a normal grey). Every time, though, this chick becomes my favorite because of the personality. Bella is like this, and Babyface, who is on the left on the last picture (it's just a nickname). Both are calm and they like my company. Babyface is missing patch of feathers, so I might end up keeping him/her, especially if the feathers don't grow back. I didn't see any eggs, and Cuddles is staying with everybody like normal. She is checking some locations (for the nest I guess) but its far away from frantic search she did the previous time when she stayed without her box. They do mate thought again and again... Maybe she is discovering she can do it for pleasure. I hope so. Time will tell us. She went to sleep all right, but the perch she sleeps on is pretty much above the babies' perch. I moved hers a little bit and I hope she won't drop her egg on somebody's head.

I went to the Farmer's market today and saw people who have Emu farm. They sell Emu products and they had some emu eggs... The eggs are huge and teal in color. I didn't realize (until they told me) they drain the inside of the eggs before they sell eggs for decorative purposes. She showed me pictures and said that they sell a lot of fertile eggs over internet to other people for them to incubate and hatch.... I found it interesting. I wish somebody would buy our fertile eggs LOL, just kidding. But that made me think I have the wrong birds (kidding again)

We had a big tragedy happened today. They were all flying in the morning when I saw one baby was under the cage on his back trying to reverse himself. I got his out, reversed but his body was in an awkward position..... He died in my hands a few minutes later... I think he broke his neck or something like that. I didn't see why he ended up under the cage. I feel so bad.... he was a good little guy, and the way he died - I could of prevent it. All birds froze in the kitchen like they know what happened. RIP little Yellow back...

They have sometimes a massive fright. Last time I think it was caused by my house shirt that they never seen before. How could it be that the shirt causing them panic for 2 days? It's a regular cotton shirt, and only when I removed it, they calmed down. Today they again have some kind of a massive fright. I am sure fright caused poor Yellow back to die. The clearance between the floor and the grate cage bottom shelf is 6 inches. He must of been already hurt when he ended up there in panic. I want to bury him in the yard in the box, but we have snow right now. What should I do with his body - keep it cold until I am able to bury him?

thanks. Any advise on the burial? I still have him in the shoe box in garage (can't believe it happened!). its a very bad weather day here today - freezing cold and snowy. It's not a good idea to bury with the box, or would it be OK?

I can't freeze him. I don't know why. Earlier I was wondering if the parents know every single baby or they just see them as noisy hungry crowd. I know now that they do tell apart every single baby and they know when somebody is missing. When talking about clipping their wings, does it apply to any single bird or just babies, or an opposite - anybody but babies? How soon can we think the babies learned fully to fly? They fly pretty well, but probably not as skilled as older birds.
I think you mentioned earlier about glass sliding door? Should I keep blinds closed? then it will be dark and I don't have overhead light in the living room. I have some lights here and there, and older kids like to sit on those fixtures when light is on that doesn't make me comfortable, so I turn them off during the day relying on outdoor light only. The place where I found Yellowback was pretty close to the sliding door. I need to re-think everything because I rely on the previous clutch experience (how they grew up) and its not the same now. It hurt to see four of them instead of five on the perch tonight when it was a bedtime. We will miss Yellowback very much. On my last picture he is on the very back.
