Hello, One of my cockatiel eggs hatched leaving my newest chick 1 day old. (By the way, first time breeding tiel's) the babys crop looks all like it has a lot seeds in it. I read that there are certain foods that you can feed the parents, but I don't know what they are.
Help!

Congratulations on the new baby! Does it have yellow fuzz and dark eyes, or something else? In general, soft high-nutrition foods are easier for babies to digest than hard seed. This article has suggestions: http://www.littlefeatheredbuddies.com/i ... l#breeders

Yes, I do, and i believe it was all my fault! I went to check the peeping egg/chick took it out of the nest and examined it. After everything checked out, i put it back. (The baby was half out of the shell) I put the egg right next the mother, thinking that she would put it underneath her. I came back about a half an hour later, and the egg was right where I left it. The mother did not put her baby back, and the baby chilled to death. If I had made SURE the baby was under it's mother when I left, it probably would still be alive! I am so stupid! I feel sooooo ashamed! The mom only has one more egg and one chick. She laid four before, and the last one was not fertle, so I disposed of it. How do i get this horrible feeling out of my gut?

This is so sad! I know that feeling so well, Hannah, I bet everyone here does; accidents happen. I am no expert at all, I am sure you will get better replies soon, but I don't think you could have prevented it. Maybe mom felt that the chick was ill or too weak and decided not to care for it: I have heard that they do that. In that case, even if you moved the egg/chick underneath her she would have moved it away. Please make peace with yourself, you feel miserable and that's understandable but give it a little bit of time and you will feel better. And you have the other babies to take care of! Concentrate on them
