Smokey (my other male) is so left out. He misses his friends so much. He sits on top of their cage, sometimes calling to them. He too is so in love with Bitsy. Of course, they ignore him. I have thought about getting him a friend but am hoping that when the babies are older he will find one of them to be his buddy.--a buddy not breading buddy. He loves me too and when he is not on their cage he is on my shoulder. He is a little nippy at times but then the next minute is asking to be snuggled. I need to get better at longer nights for him, it probably would help his hormones. I am worried that he is not eating enough.

He might enjoy eating food that you're holding in your hand for him. That would give him simultaneous social time and nutrition!
Are they aggressive when he comes around the nest? Most pairs don't want any 'helpers' but some birds will allow it. If they're aggressive then you need to keep him out of harm's way, but if they allow him in the nestbox he could help with the breeding duties.

He neve gets inside the cage. He only sits on top. Roscoe was getting aggresive toward him prior to Bitsy laying eggs so I have been afraid to let him in their cage. I am sure he would love to see the babies and may even help but I am not sure that I should try it.

If there was aggression before there will probably still be aggression now. It's best to keep him safely away from the nest.

Good luck on your clutch! By the way, I never caught the breed of birds you were breeding.......just wondering.

cockatiels--I have 3, Bitsy and Roscoe (parents of 3 chick) and Smokey who would love to be part of the process. But he seems to be adjusting better. When the parents are out of their cage, he often times will still go and sit on top of the cage.
