The reason the finches didn't accept the nestbox is because in the wild, well, they don't use them. Nestboxes are designed to imitate holes in trees, and finches biuld nests in the wild. It just wasn't natural.

So the babies are now just at the cusp of fledging--they've got all their feathers, but some are still pins. They get upset now when I try to look in so I've haven't bothered them as much.

The parents are apparently sick of feeding them though--the other day we found a big sprig of millet in the nest. One of the parents must have dragged it in :lol:

About 6 months, I think? Whenever their first molt is.
