This question has always bugged me. Marshmallow was Bio's mate. After Bio flew away, Marshmallow has been mating with Georgie.

Does this mean that she cheated on Bio? Or does it not apply to birds. It can't be a divorce since she was bonded to him, pherhapes more that she is to Georgie. They had one fertile egg but I threw it out and replaced with dummy's.

I don't think terms like married, divorced, ect. Apply to birds.......

I don't know if it applies to tiels, but some birds mate for life or until one mate dies.

The only time I've heard of the term "marriage" in birds is right here:

Birds don't intellectualize relationships the way we do. Many will be faithful to a mate as long as the mate is there, but if the mate disappears and their hormones are running high, they'll mate with someone else. This is how nature keeps the species going.

If Bio came back again, she might very well dump Georgie and go back to Bio. A study on force re-paired cockatiels (where they were separated from their free-choice mate and put in a breeding cage with a mate they didn't choose) found that some would breed with the new mate, especially if both birds had previous breeding experience. But many of them went back to their old mate when they got the chance. http://www.appliedanimalbehaviour.com/a ... 8/abstract

Life goes on for tiel girls. I was appalled when George died and Trilly went in search of a new mate in a matter of days... But then, I got to understand that they are nothing like us humans.
Very hard to accept for me, I have to say.

Thank you so much guys. Sorry I didn't reply soon. I might have started a post but then someone called me so I had to stop and I didn't reply because I thought I already did.
