Okay, I admit. I want a Princess Of Wales Parrot!

What do they eat? Are they really messy? If anyone knows information on them, I would love to hear :)

I will definitely not get any more birds until I re-model my aviary. That comes first. I hope the place where I get my birds from carries them.

Next time I go to the place where I get my birds from. Would you like to see pictures of all the birds, cages etc?

Here's a site with a nice description of their wild habits and personality: http://www.princegeorges.com/Princess_o ... a-441.html

They occupy the same habitat as cockatiels and budgies and have a similar diet, but unlike cockatiels they apparently like fruit. I don't know about the mess, but they're quiet and gentle so they won't disturb the neighborhood.

thank you so much for the link!

i don't really mind if they are a little messy but if the are extremely messy like a macaw, then i would rather stick with cockatiels.

time to read the link you posted :D

the place i buy my birds has really cheap prices. cockatiels are $35. very cheap. they have a lot of different species of birds. it isn't a big store. they are also a lot of other bird shops nearby, so i will be successful in my search one way or another :D

I saw one at Parrot Planet. It was way too much though. They look like they would be a nice bird, but I'm still partial to pionus and lovebirds.

I've been craving a POW for years. Heck, I'd love to have a plain old budgie, they're great birds and I miss having them around.

Can i ask why you've been holding back? I just started this craving and i am really excited! i have a good feeling about this.

Also, what are good ways to make your parents say yes? I REEAAALLY want to make a new aviary. This one is old, the floors are squeaking because its all cracked. and the cage wires aren't even safe. I had a couple incidents where Bio and his babies stuck their heads through the wires and couldn't get it out. Good thing i was there and pocked it back out.

Should i start off saying "the aviary is starting to break" or is that too demanding? I have trouble asking for things. My parents never hit me, i just get really nervous and keep trying to find a good time until its too late.

Also, I am not sure if i can build an aviary ALL by myself. i want a cement floor and i am not sure if i know how to make that

When the new aviary is complete, will it matter which side the POW goes to?

Also, if i get a male, will it be called Princess Of Wales, or Prince of Wales?

Imagine if someone asks what kind of bird is that and i answer "Princess Of Wales" then they ask if its a male of female and i answer "male"

I would tell them like it is Baruch. Say that the floor is bad, the wiring is bad, and its very old. If they don't believe you, go and show them. BTW, concrete is expensive, so don't mention that until after the fish problem :)

What is a POW? (Sorry for asking such a stupid question)

POW is the abbreviation for Princess of Wales. My introduction to it was on an Arizona forum where someone was talking about POW and I didn't know what they meant - the only thing I could think of was "parrots out west".

It's the name of the whole species regardless of sex, named after a Danish princess who married the English Prince of Wales and became queen when he became king. There are other names including Queen Alexandra Parrot (or Parakeet), Alexandra's Parakeet, Rose-throated Parakeet, and Spinifex Parrot. So pick the one you like best, or hit them with Polytelis alexandrae. If you want to be snarky you could say "prisoner of war" (the more familiar meaning of POW).

I've been holding back on getting one just simply because I have too many birds already and need to draw the line somewhere.

For the aviary, you could tell them that it's starting to fall apart and is becoming unsafe, and you'd like to repair or replace it, and add some design features that will help you keep the cockatiel population under control. Separating the boys from the girls sometimes in other words.

Is either one of your parents good at building things, or someone else that you know? You could tell them that you want to learn how to do this stuff yourself but need someone to teach you and help you. I can tell you from experience that it's not easy figuring this stuff out on your own. I still can't drive a nail straight, which is one reason I put all my stuff together with screws rather than nails. The main reason though was that if you use screws you can take it apart a lot more easily if you want to change something or replace damaged parts. Pulling out nails is harder than unscrewing something, and is more likely to damage the wood.
