I never thought about night flights and not being in a cage. thank you.

So tonight he was in with Snowflake and appeared to have settled down. My son went into the kitchen to cook something to eat and Roscoe started with his noises that say let me out of my cage. We have open space between kitchen and living room. Anyway, I got to thinking that I had been covering them at night to control his hormones and that I had stopped for a while but the group would often be restless, so I had resumed covering them. Once I put up the nestbox and put Roscoe and Bitsy in a separate cage, I had stopped covering them. They are in the dining room where it is a little darker. So I thought maybe I should put him back in with Bitsy and cover the cage. I put him in the cage with her , covered it and he settled down right away. So maybe this is the answer. Do you see any problem with their cage being covered at night?

As long as the birds are comfortable it's OK to cover the cage and equally OK to not cover it. As long as it isn't a blackout cover they'll start seeing light when dawn arrives. When my birds are breeding I always cover the cage at night, using a lightweight cover that lets light pass through.

All my birds are covered at a set time each night... had no trouble at all... they all seem to know when its time for bed... my routine is the same every-night for them... and as near to the same time also. worth a try....

Since chick "1 has hatched, Roscoe has completely settled down. He and Bitsy are in parenting mode. Tonight the 3 of them are all sleeping together. So cute.
