14-hour nights still in progress. However, Piper and Emma have started mating again. Also, I caught Emma backing into the bottom corner of the cage and chewing on the paper.

I hope it doesn't mean more eggs.

Oh no, I thought it was working good. My birds get very hormonal in the fall. Maybe Emma and Piper feel the same way.

Emma laid another egg, and went into full sitting mode. She has one egg, and I gave her one dummy egg. I tried putting them into a little dish, but she just sat next to it. So, I put them back on the cage floor. Then she went back to sitting on the one she laid.

This morning she wouldn't even come out for her normal fly around. Usually she is sitting eagerly at the door to get out the second I open it. She seems to know the difference between the eggs. She's only sitting on the one she laid. The other one she pushed aside.

Oh, actually, I just saw her push the two together and she seems to be sitting on both.

Isn't it amazing how they know what they are supposed to do. I know it's instinct, but I don't really feel that instinct explains the particulars.

Look at her sweet, innocent face. I bet she thinks she and Piper actually succeeded in budgietiels.
