I haven't found much information online on this. I'm wondering if Blue Crown Conures and Sun conures are allowed to breed.

I know that have the ability to breed. I found a picture of a Sun and Blue crown hybrid but I want to know if it's safe. Some people say it's allowed and some people say it's not allowed. I'm not sure what to think. They are both aratinga conures. They also have Sunday conures which is a hybrid of a sun and jenday. They are both aratinga conure too so I'm guessing it should be fine to let them breed if they want to?

Here is a picture I found online of a sun/blue crown hybrid. Apparently there is no name for this species so it's kind of difficult to find some info online.

A touchy subject.... some breeders will, but ones who wish to keep the birds pure, genetic wise,
never would...
A mine field to get into B

This is very much an ethical issue.

Can they breed, yes, the DNA matches, so they will have offspring.
Wether that offspring itself will be furtile, I doubt it, but it is possible.

Should you let them breed is another question though.
And as Jan points out, that is a minefield to wander in.
You'll have people going mad over this topic so I'm not stepping in.

Yes, it's true. Cross breeding is pretty controversial. They can breed, like Bob said, the DNA matches, but lots of people aren't too crazy about the subject. Personally, I'm neutral with it, but if I had the opportunity to, I don't know what my stance would be.

Hybrids are a bad idea IMO. It pollutes the gene pool for the pure species. It's usually easy to identify a first-generation 50/50 hybrid but much harder to identify birds in later generations that are one-quarter or one-eighth from a different species. So people who don't want to breed hybrids can end up unintentionally introducing the genes from a different species into the pure line. Many parrots are endangered in the wild so the captive gene pool is an important resource for preserving the species.

Thank you everyone! I won't breed 2 different species then. :)
